2 years ago, we introduced a popular website that allowed users to combine two emoji symbols into a single image: EmojiMix("⌨️The Source Of EmojiMix Is Actually From Here! Let's COOK These Emojis~"). The combined emoji stickers on this site were actually all generated using Google's "Emoji Kitchen".
At that time, we also hinted that our EmojiAll team was working on a new Emoji fusion feature using artificial intelligence. However, since AI technology wasn't quite there yet, the results were less than ideal.
However, over the past two years, generative AI technology has advanced rapidly, significantly lowering the technical barriers. We've seen remarkable progress in both text and image generation. Recently, we've revisited and improved our previous Emoji Translator and Emoji Image Fusion projects, even going so far as to completely revamp them.
🔸The Old Version of Emoji Fusion from Two Years Ago
For example, in the image below, you can see the top-ranking combinations from our old version of Emoji Fusion:
As you can see, the fused images didn't do a great job of capturing the unique characteristics of the original emojis, making it difficult to create anything truly new or creative. The image quality and clarity were also less than ideal, falling far short of our original intentions. However, due to the technical limitations at the time, we still went ahead and launched the feature. Later, when we reviewed the site's traffic data, we found that this tool didn't attract much attention.
🔸The Upgraded New Version of Emoji Fusion
In our latest update, we decided to completely abandon our previous technical approach and image content. Aside from keeping the website URL and title the same, everything else has been entirely revamped. To make it easier to compare with the old version, we started by using the original 59 emojis, combining them in pairs to generate over 3,000 fused images. The images generated with the new AI technology are worlds apart from the old ones in terms of creativity and visual appeal.
Scorpion 🦂 + Clown 🤡 = Scorpion with a Clown Face
Alien 👽 + Sheep 🐑 = Sheep with Alien Features
Avocado 🥑 + Pumpkin 🎃 = Avocado with a Pumpkin Seed
Panda 🐼 + Masked Face 😷 = Panda Wearing a Mask
Doesn't them look super creative? 😄 Let me share you a few more fusion images:
Our new version of Emoji Fusion offers downloads in two sizes: 800x800 and 160x160 pixels. In the top right corner of each image, you'll find the two original emojis used for the fusion, making it easy to compare.
At the bottom of our newly revamped Emoji Fusion page, we've also added a ranking system, where images are sorted based on the number of likes👍 they receive.
🔸More Emoji Fusion Images Are Still in the Works
Google's Emoji Kitchen project involves human designers carefully selecting certain emoji combinations and creating creative images. Some of the fusion results are indeed impressive, which is why the number of input emojis has gradually expanded from just a few to over a thousand. However, not all combinations turn out as expected, and some of the fused images may not blend so seamlessly.
We've also done the math: considering all possible pairwise combinations, the 1,900+ basic emojis could potentially result in millions of fusion images, which would be incredibly costly for human designers to produce. However, with the advancements in generative AI technology, creating a wide variety of combinations has become much more feasible. So far, we've generated over 3,000 fusion images from 59x59 combinations, and our next step is to train models for combinations in the range of 200+ x 200+, which could result in over 50,000 images. Although this process is challenging, we are committed to progressing step by step and will gradually make these images available for access.
